How did we get here...

Having always had a keen interest on horse racing and injury bringing about an end to a football career at 19, Jeremy had a stint at University in Adelaide (lacking in gusto) before embarking on a career in racing following the sudden death of his Mum Janet, dipping his toe and getting well and truly bitten by the bug with the astute Ray Taylor at Goolwa (the very stables Jeremy was eventually to train out of some years later). Having done an apprenticeship with horses and ownership with Ray Taylor and then Leon MacDonald at Morphettville for a few years he gained valuable stud experience with Milluna Stud.

After his time there a trip to the UK beckoned and two years followed there with Mark Tompkins in Newmarket, working with such horses as 2000 Guineas runner up Even Top and St Leger winner Bob's Return just a couple of the stable stars at Flint Cottage during that time.

A return to South Australia resulted in the start of his training career at Morphettville with one horse bred by his Father Richard's Syndicate. The first runner provided a rude shock with Full On Clubs running last at Strathalbyn and a bearing exploding on the float on the way down the freeway...Gradually the stable grew and results followed with the first winner coming at Victoria Park with NZ bred Rock City.

Success grew with horses like Victoria Park record holder El Diablo, Jug Full and Mt Billy before an opportunity to purchase the retiring Ray Taylor Stable on the South Coast at Goolwa in 2001. It was from there that the stable went from strength to strength.

With Black Type and Flemington winner Tingirana (Port Cup, Birthday Cup,2nd in SA Oaks, ) and Maybe McLaren (winner of 10 Metro races including the Clipsal Sprint), Fly For Me, Ista Kareem, Mt Billy and Reshuffles to name a few, the stable developed a good reputation for developing longevity and success with both sprinters and stayers. Training three of the first four home, including the winner Tingirana, in the Port Adelaide Cup testament to the fact they could be prepared for the big day.

In 2007 Jeremy faced a crossroad in life and began to question his passion for the industry and made the shock announcement that he was calling time on training to follow other interests. What a memorable day the last runner in Adelaide was as Tingirana won the Listed Birthday Cup first up over 1800m at Morphettvile at juicy odds given starting horses over the distance was rarely attempted in those days. Jeremy walked away from racing in Adelaide with a heavy heart but with the head held high.

Months later an online chance encounter with Eamonn Wilmott, an Entrepreneur from the UK wound up with Jeremy shipping the family off the UK with a renewed passion for racing and the start of an adventure of a lifetime and one that the family will cherish forever.

Things took a little time to start rolling training under vastly different conditions to what he was used to but the winners followed , as did associations with some wonderful horses and people. You have to ask Jeremy about the experience of meeting the Queen at Buckingham Palace! It's a funny story.

The life changing horse Medicean Man took the stable to Dubai, France, Ireland, Singapore and Qatar, but his greatest achievement was in agonising defeat by a nose in the time honoured Group 1 Kings Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot under Joe Moreira.

Again in the UK Jeremy displayed the ability to develop a horse to race at its best season after season. Medicean Man ran at five Royal Ascots, Anne Of Kiev, a former filly with John Gosden, developed into a Listed race winner, Street Power (10 wins), New Leyf (8 wins and 22 pl) just to name a few.

After ten years of training in the UK the decision was made to return home to Australia where Jeremy and the family reunited with long time owner/breeder and friend Michael Abdallah who floated the idea of looking after after his small  homebred band of horses and bring them up to racing. Crowningstone Stud in Scone was purchased by Mike with a view of turning the farm into a private hybrid training and agistment property. Success followed for the pair quickly with ongoing stable stalwart Tim's Principal and Spirit OF Elijah opening the stables winning account with a double at Gosford and the second visit to a racecourse since his return.

Since then Jeremy has steadily worked away with winners for Mike with nearly every horse to race for them having won at least one race. Tim, Weather Channel, Orbital Express, etc carrying the Lilac and Blue colours as they continue to do now.

With Jeremy and Kerrie happy in Scone, the three children, Darcie now a foreman for the powerful Annabel Neasham Stable at Warwick Farm, Larnie based in Adelaide as a dental nurse and son Harrison joining the Army, Jeremy, Kerrie and Mike now feel the time is right to 'give it a squeeze' and build the stable with numbers again. With his undiminished passion for developing a horse, keeping them sound and racing, It would be a brave person to bet against added success given their previous track record around the world!
